NewcastleGateshead initiative has launched a decade of world-class culture and branded it culture10

The programme – across NewcastleGateshead and the whole of the North East - will develop and promote world-class events from now until 2010. There will be for example new world-class cultural facilities, major sports events, festivals and events of international calibre, blockbuster exhibitions and new commissions, more feature films shot in the region and many more international collaborations.

culture10 will also deliver double the investment in culture, double the number of jobs created through culture and tourism, double the number of people taking part in cultural programmes and double the number of people involved in informal learning in libraries and museums. By the end of the decade 24,000 new jobs will have been created throughout the North East and £1.2 billion invested.
