Colbeck Fish & Chip Raceday

Wednesday the 30th of September 2009 is going to be a big day for Fish & Chips. Henry Colbeck Limited, based in Gateshead and the oldest independent supplier to Fish & Chip Take-Aways & Restaurants in the United Kingdom, along with their supply partners, is sponsoring the entire race meeting at Gosforth Park on the 30th of September.

Jackie Pearson, Colbeck's Marketing Manager commented:

"Fish & Chips is still the nations favourite take-away food with almost 300 million portions being eaten every year. Fish & Chips is delicious and it is "real food", freshly prepared, not "fast food!

There are some interesting facts about Fish & Chips that may surprise most people!

Per 100gm., Fish & Chips only contain 9.42gm. of fat compared to a Doner Kebab which contains 16.2gm.

Per 100gm. portion, Fish & Chips only contain 595 calories compared to the same portion size of a burger with medium fries which contains 888 calories!"

Jackie went on to comment:

"The objective of sponsoring the race day on the 30th of September is to profile and promote Fish & Chips.

The public are constantly being informed that cod & haddock are in short supply when they are not! Only 4% of the cod used by Fish & Chip Take-Aways & Restaurants in the United Kingdom is caught in the North Sea. 96% of the cod used in Fish & Chip Take-Aways and Restaurants is caught in the North Atlantic Ocean or the Barents Sea where stocks have been professionally managed for many years."

There are 8 races with the first at 1.40pm and the last race of the day at 5.30 p.m.
