Getting here

By car: we have a traffic management system in place, general admission entry is via the East entrance (Peter Barratts), hospitality guests entry via the West entrance (Marriott Hotel). 12000 free parking spaces. Disabled parking is available on a first come first served basis.

By taxi: taxis are permitted to use the West entrance. A taxi from Newcastle City centre will probably cost around £12-£15.

By public transport: there is a free shuttle bus from Four Lane Ends and Regent Centre Metro stations which runs to the racecourse for 2 hours prior to racing and for 1 hour after the last race. Numerous buses operate from Haymarket in Newcastle via Regent Centre, with a stop at the end of the racecourse drive next to the Gosforth Park Marriott Hotel. The journey from Haymarket takes approximately 20 minutes. See bus information boards for details.

Whichever way you choose to get here please be advised traffic will be busy and we advise you to get here as early as possible. Queue’s to enter the course will be at their busiest from approximately 1 – 2pm.

Facilities for Wheelchair users

The racecourse is fully accessible for wheelchair users with ramps, lifts and disabled toilets in each enclosure. There are limited parking spaces available for blue badge holders, on a first come first served basis.

Children

Children aged 16 and under are admitted free of charge as long as they are accompanied by a paying adult, in both Premier and Grandstand & Paddock. They do not need a ticket but teenagers may be asked for proof of age. Children are charged half price in Hospitality restaurants and marquees.

Dress code

Hospitality & Premier Enclosure: smart attire is preferred. No jeans or shorts, trainers or sportswear. During the three day festival, most guests choose to dress up and hats, fascinators and posh frocks are the order of the day.

Grandstand & Paddock: there is no official dress code however the majority of guests do dress up for the occasion. If you are a large party and prefer to come in fancy dress then this is perfectly acceptable and adds to the atmosphere! Fancy dress must be decent.  Please note the management reserve the right to refuse admission.

Racecards:  race day programs detailing all the racing action are available to purchase on the day both inside and outside the course, priced at £3.

Betting Facilities

Tote betting kiosks are available throughout the course in all enclosures. Independent bookmakers are stationed in the betting ring (close to the parade ring), with access available from both the Premier Enclosure and Grandstand & Paddock. Please note alcohol is not permitted in the betting ring.

Bars and Catering

Both the Premier Enclosure and Grandstand & Paddock have numerous bars and food outlets. Additional Pimms & Champagne facilities, draft, bottle and can bars are available in both enclosures. Mobile bar units, Champagne & Pimms kiosks are situated outside Brandling House. Please be aware that while we do provide seating in the bar areas, it will be very busy, and it may not always be possible to guarantee a seat.

Bars & catering facilities open when the gates do, and remain open for at least an hour after the last race.

Alcohol

Strictly no alcohol is to be brought in to the Racecourse. Bags will be searched on entry including “gift” bags and all drinks will be confiscated, including soft drinks. Only drinks purchased on site may be consumed.

Picnics

Premier Enclosure: no picnics, alcohol or soft drinks permitted. Bags will be searched on entrance and all drinks including non-alcoholic will be confiscated.

Grandstand & Paddock Enclosure: picnics are permitted (no soft drinks or alcohol). There are lawned areas with a limited number of picnic tables provided. You may wish to bring a picnic rug and/or folding chairs. Gazebos and Barbeques are not permitted.

Smoking

Smoking is permitted in designated outdoor areas with bins provided for cigarette stubs. All indoor bars, restaurants and public areas operate a strict non-smoking policy.

Toilet facilities

Additional toilet facilities are located throughout the site. Stewards will be available to direct you to the nearest ones. We have made extra provision this year to alleviate queuing but please be aware that the racecourse will be very busy.

Getting home

The shuttle bus runs from the Racecourse to Four Lane Ends & Regent Centre for one hour after the last race. Taxi ranks operate from outside the Racecourse. Traffic will be very busy immediately after racing for an hour or two. Bars and catering units will be open during this time, as will the Border Minstrel Public House.
