THE COURSE
Information about Newcastle Racecourse
Newcastle is a left-handed, oval shaped course of one mile six furlongs in circumference.
There is also a straight course, over which races of up to one mile can be run. The course is decidedly galloping in character, and a steady climb from the turn into the straight makes it a testing track, particularly for two-year-olds early in the season. Ability to see the distance out thoroughly is most important.
Draw
There is no strong evidence of a regular draw advantage at Newcastle.
Start Positions
There are 2 one mile starts, one on the 1 mile straight and one on the 1 mile round course.
Stalls positions tend to remain the same on the Flat course:
- Races over the straight course (1m, 5f, 6f, 7f, 2m and 1m6f) on Stand Side
- Round course (1m, 1m4f) on inside
- 1m2f lined up with the bend in the centre
