Beeswing was hailed as the greatest mare in Britain and one of the greatest of all time. Beeswing raced at many venues between 1835 and 1842 and was a real favorite with the crowd. Entering 63 events, she won an incredible 51 times. Of the 57 races she finished, she was placed lower than 2nd on only one occasion. Her most notable victory was the 1842 Ascot Gold Cup. She won the Newcastle Cup an amazing six times and won the Doncaster Cup for the fourth time and was retired afterwards.

Follow brown and white tourist board signs bearing a horse and rider from the A1, A1 and main approach roads to the city.
By train: Newcastle Central Station is 15 minutes by taxi from Newcastle Racecourse and is also linked to the Metro system. Free buses run from Regent Centre and Four Lane Ends Metro stations on racedays 90 minutes before the first race and for one hour after the last.
By bus: Numbers 40, 41, 42, 43, 44, and 45 leave from Haymarket bus station in the city centre every few minutes.
Newcastle International Airport is situated 6 miles from Newcastle Racecourse and is easily accessible. If travelling by helicopter please contact the racecourse.
Parking onsite is free of charge, with some tarmac areas. Please be aware some parking is on grassed areas.
Our racecourse enclosures cater for disabled customers and their carers (we give carers free admission), as well as ample space to view the racing we provide the following facilities;
Picnics are allowed in our designated picnic areas only. You can purchase a ticket for the Picnic Enclosure for £25. Picnic furniture is acceptable in this area with the exception of gazebo’s and windbreakers. Strictly no alcohol or soft drinks allowed.
It is strictly forbidden to bring alcohol onto the racecourse and it will be confiscated by security staff upon arrival. Alcohol can be bought at our onsite bars available in all enclosures.
Tickets will be issued 2-3 weeks prior to the raceday. If you order your tickets 5 days before the raceday tickets will be available for collection only. Advance bookings are all subject to a £2.50 booking fee per booking (not per person) online or on the phone.
Ticket collection is from the Racing & Events office, which is located next to the Border Minstrel Public House.
We run free shuttle buses from Regent Centre and Four Lane Ends Metro stations on racedays 90 minutes before the first race and for one hour after the last. These buses run in a loop, once they are filled, so you may have to wait as there's no set timetable.
Our Premier dress code is collared shirts, no polo shirts, dress trousers and shoes (smart denim is acceptable). During Ladies Day Festival racegoers like to dress for the occasion. Ladies dress is smart.
There is no dress code in the Grandstand & Paddock Enclosure, however the removal of shirts is not permitted. Fancy dress is also allowed, so long as it won't cause offence to other racegoers.
