Newcastle is a left-handed, oval shaped course of one mile six furlongs in circumference.
There is also a straight course, over which races of up to one mile can be run. The course is decidedly galloping in character, and a steady climb from the turn into the straight makes it a testing track, particularly for two-year-olds early in the season. Ability to see the distance out thoroughly is most important.

There is no strong evidence of a regular draw advantage at Newcastle.
START POSITIONS:
There are 2 one mile starts, one on the 1 mile straight and one on the 1 mile round course.
