First established in 1969, the historic Fighting Fifth Hurdle is the first grade 1 hurdle of the national hunt season, taking place in late November/early December. Run over a distance of 2 miles and half a furlong, there are nine hurdles for participants to face, making for a thrilling and challenging race.
Some of the most successful horses were Comedy of Errors and Birds Nest who both achieved 3 wins each in the seventies. In more recent times, Champion Hurdler Buveur D'Air won the 2017 and 2018 renewals. Other notable mentions are jockey Barry Geraghty who has won 3 times, and trainer Nicky Henderson who boasts 5 wins since 2001.
