First established in 1969, the historic Fighting Fifth Hurdle is the first grade 1 hurdle of the national hunt season, taking place in late November/early December. Run over a distance of 2 miles and half a furlong, there are nine hurdles for participants to face, making for a thrilling and challenging race.
Some of the most successful horses were Comedy of Errors and Birds Nest who both achieved 3 wins each in the seventies. Though Buveur D’Air may join these champions if he can achieve his third win in 2019. Other notable mentions are jockey Barry Geraghty who has won 3 times, and trainer Nickey Henderson who boasts 5 wins since 2001.
