Times
What time do your gates open?
Gates generally open 90 minutes before the first race. For feature and festival fixtures, gates may open earlier.
We always advise to check our What’s On fixture page for the date you’re attending to get the most up-to-date timings, as race times are subject to change.
What time is the last race and when will the racecourse close?
As races can take place at different times and can also change at the last minute, we recommend checking your specific fixture for the time of the last race.
The racecourse itself, along with its bars and food outlets, closes shortly after the last race. For Live After Racing nights or themed race nights with music after racing, the live act performs for between an hour to 90 minutes after the last race and then the racecourse closes shortly after the performance.
Check the What’s On fixture page for the date you’re attending for the most up-to-date timings.

Located just 15 minutes away by car or train from Newcastle city centre, there are lots of fantastic hotels and self-catering options in the city centre and nearby Gosforth. Visit our ‘Where to Stay’ page or the Visit North East England website for more information.
Does the weather affect the racing?
Newcastle Racecourse hosts Flat racing solely on our All-Weather track, however we do have a turf track for National Hunt (Jumps) racing.
For our turf track, the amount of rainfall impacts the ‘Going’ and how ‘hard’ or ‘soft’ the ground is. The health and safety of all participants and horses is always our top priority so if the racing surface is deemed to be unraceable or there are extreme weather conditions, a fixture will be abandoned. If this happens, customers will be notified and the information will be available immediately on our website so there is no need to contact us.
Full or partial refunds will be automatically provided according to our refund policy which are available on our terms and conditions of entry.
