The Eider Chase is a prestigious steeplechase held here at Newcastle Racecourse every February.
Covering a challenging distance of approximately 4 miles and 1½ furlongs (4 miles, 1 furlong, and 56 yards, or 6,690 meters), the race features 24 fences that test the skill and stamina of every horse and jockey.
First run in 1952, the Eider Chase is often considered an important trial for the Grand National, with many horses using it as a key preparation for the famous race.
The 2025 winner of the Eider Chase was Knockanore, ridden by Freddie Mitchell and trained by Ryan Potter.
In 2026, Anglers Crag regained the title with a brilliant victory under Danny McMenamin, adding a second Eider Chase success following his memorable triumph in 2024.

Past winners include Anglers Crag (2026 & 2024), Knockanore (2025), Kitty's Light (2023), Win My Wings (2022) and Sam's Adventure (2021).
