The Most Famous Race Meeting At Newcastle

As part of the three day horse racing festival.

William Hill Northumberland Plate Festival

The historic race previously known as the "Pitmen's Derby", formed the centrepiece of the holiday period known locally as "Race Week" for local mine workers. Today's Plate Day attracts a diverse crowd of racegoers and many ladies treat it as the North-East's version of Royal Ascot, but with a more relaxed and informal atmosphere.

Day 1

The first day of this exclusive festival, which features the competitive and valuable Class 2 race - the William Hill Seaton Delaval Handicap Stakes. The race is named after both the local village in Northumberland and a horse by the same name, who was victorious in the 1893 Northumberland Plate.
