Newcastle Racecourse is delighted to announce that BetVictor are the new sponsors of the Grade 1 Fighting Fifth Hurdle, which takes place this year on Saturday 1 December.
As the first Grade 1 Hurdle of the jump season, the Fighting Fifth Hurdle is one of the most prestigious races in the National Hunt calendar. The race is run over 2miles and will this year offer £110,000 in prize money.
Last year's winner, Buveur D'Air, went on to become the first winner of the Hurdling Triple Crown since Kribensis (1989/90), and the JP McManus owned, Nicky Henderson trained, 7-year-old looks set to once again begin his season at Newcastle in a bid to retain his Hurdling Triple Crown. The division, however, looks fiercely competitive this year, with Summerville Boy and Samcro intending to serve up a challenge to Buveur D'Air. A tasty early season clash in Newcastle is entirely possible.
BetVictor is one of Europe’s leading online gaming companies and bookmaker.
BetVictor are also sponsors of the day's other Class 1 race, the Rehearsal Chase. A race which has seen top class horses such as Yala Enki, Definitely Red, Beware The Bear and Bristol De Mai finish in the frame over the past two years.
