Newcastle Racecourse enjoys bumper crowd at BetMGM Fighting Fifth Hurdle

Newcastle Racecourse enjoyed hosting their biggest crowd since 2007 at this year’s BetMGM Fighting Fifth Hurdle meeting, with the official attendance of 6,436 up 25% on last year’s figure.

Racegoers were treated to one of the most dramatic renewals of the 2m Grade 1 contest there has ever been as former winner Constitution Hill fell at the second hurdle before The New Lion also crashed out at the same flight on the final circuit. Reigning Champion Hurdler Golden Ace prevailed to regain the winning thread and provide connections with another memorable day.

Elsewhere on the card, Konfusion was an eased down winner of the BetMGM Rehearsal Handicap Chase for Sue Smith, while Irish raider Zanndabad was an equally impressive winner of the French Furze Novices’ Hurdle.

We now look forward to the festive season with plenty of racing and Christmas parties to look forward to, find out more about what's to come in December here.
