From 2027, the distance of the Eider Chase will be reduced from 4m1f to approximately 3m6f.
The race was increased from four miles to 4m1f in 2021 to facilitate a change to the starting position, moving the start away from the bend.
As part of our continued review of the race and its place within the National Hunt programme, we have decided to trial a shorter distance from 2027. The Eider has a long and proud history as one of the most demanding staying chases in the calendar, and we believe this adjustment will retain the character and identity of the race while potentially making it attractive to a broader pool of staying chasers.
We will review the impact of the change following the 2027 running, including feedback from trainers and participants, before considering the longer-term distance of the race.
